Links

Here are some of the links we recommend to help improve your photography (or at least make it easier and more enjoyable) -

Adobe Lightroom: Our starting point for all our images is Adobe Lightroom. This is a fantastic piece of software that we use to catalogue and start our editing processes. It is simple to use and has many features that allow you to be creative with your editing. With so many plug-ins available within Lightroom (check out the other software listed below) it handles all our requirements. The creative cloud version includes Lightroom and Photoshop at a reasonable monthly price of AU$14.29 / US$9.99.

Peak Design: A great range of camera bags, clips, straps, and covers. Click here to see their full range. We currently use the Slide camera strapShell waterproof camera cover, and the Everyday Sling 10L camera bag. The Everyday Sling Bag is a must-have for Travel Photographers and was invaluable during a 3-week visit to Japan. Check out our blog post here.

NiSi Filters make awesome filters for all levels of photography. They have a comprehensive range of screw-in round filters and square filter system. We have been using these for a while now and absolutely love them. For Australian delivery addresses, we can offer discounts. Contact us for details.

GOBE Filters: We always use UV filters on our expensive lenses. We may remove them when we shoot but they are usually always on the lens. In the past, we have used Hoya filters until we discovered GOBE filters. Not only do they make fantastic UV, CPL and ND filters but they are also pro-active in helping the environment. They use minimal recyclable packaging and funds from every product sold are contributing to the planting of 5 trees in areas of severe deforestation throughout the world. If you use the coupon code WideScenes at checkout you can save a further 15% on their products.  Click here to order.
OnOne Software: It works as a plug-in for Lightroom & Photoshop but also as a standalone which is awesome if you do not have either of the these. No subscription is required and is available for both Mac & Windows. The new ON1 Photo Raw is a must have and at the heart of the software lies Develop & Effects which includes everything you could possibly need for creating the look you want. The hundreds of filters and presets are stackable, allowing for endless creativity. Make sure you check the minimum computer requirements for the software before purchasing. Click here to check it out.

SkylumAurora HDR 2018 and Luminar Jupiter are also very useful editing software apps which also work as stand-alone products. Aurora HDR 2018 is the best HDR software currently on the market. It’s a one-stop-shop for HDR shooters who want to align, blend and stylise in one application. You can order the 2018 version which has even more great features over the 2017 version at a great price.  In the past, this software has only been available to MAC users however that has changed with the latest release for PC. Click here to order Aurora HDR 2018. Upgrade prices are also available if you have previous versions.

Luminar Jupiter is a great photo editing software app for Mac and PC. Fast and powerful, and features Accent, the world’s first AI-powered photo filter. Luminar Jupiter makes complex image editing ultra-easy, helping you create the most beautiful pictures in seconds. Click here to order Luminar Jupiter.

Topaz Labs: Another suite of plug-ins that we use quite a lot and highly recommend. Awesome image enhancement plug-in software. We currently use Studio, Detail, Clarity, Clean, DeNoise, Glow, ReStyle, Simplify, Texture Effects, Adjust, InFocus, Lens Effects, B&W Effects and ReMask. Topaz Studio is a FREE download and is a simple to use editing platform with Topaz Labs’ powerful acclaimed photo enhancement technology. It works as a standalone editor, a plugin within Lightroom and Photoshop, as well as a host application for your other Topaz plugins. Click here to view their full range of products. In the meantime check out our blog posts on some of their products. Click here to view posts.

Photomatix Pro 6: We are an affiliate with HdrSoft who make Photomatix Pro software, another very good HDR software applications on the market. If you are not experienced at manually blending images using layers in Photoshop then this is a great alternative. This software is suitable for those that simply want to align the images and give minor. Any further editing or stylising can be done in Lightroom, Photoshop, ON1, Topaz or any other editing software. To purchase the software click here and use ‘widescenes’ in the coupon code box and you will receive a 15% discount. This will save you about AUD$20.00.

Sony: We made the switch from Nikon to Sony over 3 years ago and we have not looked back since. The A7 range of full-frame mirrorless bodies are fantastic. We have used the A7R & A7ii camera bodies and now use the A7rii. They offer some great benefits for what we do over DSLR’s on the market. We also have the Sony a6000 that is a great crop sensor (x1.5) camera that gives us that extra focal length on our Sony 70-200 f4lens. Click here to visit the site and see their full range of cameras and lenses.

We have been using LowePro camera bags for a long time and they are extremely durable and well designed. Try to buy a bag with AW after the model as this means it has a very handy little raincoat built into the bag. We also strongly recommend the Sling Bags however only the SlingShot & Photo Sports models have the AW option.

Manfrotto tripods are great. We have been using a 055 tripod with a ball & socket head for 20 years. Look after them and they will never let you down. This link is to the Australian site.

Joby makes the GorillaPod, which is an excellent little flexible tripod that allows you to take some really great shots when you don't want to carry around your larger tripod. It has its limitations but nevertheless, it is a great tool for using in places where erecting a full-size tripod is a problem.

Google Nik Collection is excellent software. We own the suite and especially love their Sharpener Pro 3.0, Color Efex Pro and Silver Efex Pro. They are now owned by Google and you can download the suite for FREE at https://www.google.com/nikcollection/
